Definition of Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation is a branch of mental health and social services provided by licensed professionals that offer preventative evidence-based interventions to promote a healthy adaptation to life circumstances. The profession originates and is unique to the Province of Quebec. Psychoeducators mostly intervene on behavioural difficulties although it has expanded to address a multitude of challenges. Its purpose is to empower clients by teaching them strategies and providing them with practical tools that they can independently apply in their daily lives to foster a greater overall well-being. Psychoeducators often work in the client's natural environment to facilitate the development of healthy habits for the individual and other members of their surroundings.
